Went for a little “stroll” today as a Green River volunteer.

Starting from the 4,785m station, we panted our way up to the steep 4,891m summit. Climbing without oxygen is definitely a workout—our only gear was the bright green bags in our hands and the rocky slope under our feet.

It’s no grand expedition. It’s just that when you look at the pristine Yuzhu Peak in the background, you feel the path you’re walking on should be just as clean.

The wind was strong and the clouds hung low. We stopped, walked, and picked up litter along the way. Looking down from the high ground, we unexpectedly spotted the recent makeshift cabins left by “Sha Wa Zi” (gold panners). I never expected to find traces of gold mining still lingering on the other side of the mountain. The snow-capped peaks remain perfectly quiet, yet in this high-altitude wilderness, the human pursuit of gold seems to have never really ceased.
